Traveling in Hong Kong
Money
The Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) and the Chinese Yuan (RMB) are used in Hong Kong . One recommendation is to have your native currency in traveler's cheques or cash, although credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diner's Club, and JCB are used widely in mid to high range hotels and major shopping centers.
Weather
November and December are considered to be the best months to visit Hong Kong because of the comfortable temperatures and lots of sunshine. January and February can get fairly chilly, and as the year progresses into summer, the air gets very hot and sticky. If you are going in September, expect typhoons and tropical rain storms.
Safety
Hong Kong, not unlike the rest of China , is very safe for foreign visitors. When crimes are committed, they are usually targeted towards the local citizens. It is important, however, to be alert and cautious, especially when carrying valuables or large sums of money. Avoid money exchanges with people on the street; bank exchanges are always the safest way to exchange your currency.
Vaccination
It is advised for all travelers going to Hong Kong to be immunized against cholera, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Hepatitis A and B, Japanese B Encephalitis, Polio, Rabies, and Typhoid. A lot of global medical insurance plans cover vaccinations; please check with your insurance company or your insurance broker for more details.
