Advice for UK medical Insurance
This information is for non-British citizens regarding the United Kingdom's medical system. It is strongly advised that you have an International Medical Insurance policy before you arrive in the United Kingdom. In Britain, foreign nationals are only eligible for emergency treatment in the Accident and Emergency department of National Health Service hospitals. If you are admitted to a hospital as an in-patient, or referred to a clinic as an out-patient, you will be asked to pay unless:
- You are a national or resident of the European Economic Community .
- You are a refugee or stateless person living in the EEC, or a dependant or survivor of such a person, regardless of your own nationality.
- You hold a UK state retirement pension.
- You apply and are granted an NHS card. On the NHS, about 20% of your income is paid into the National Health Insurance system each month.
As you can see, there is a strong need for foreign nationals visiting the United Kingdom to have medical insurance. Our Expat Medical Insurance advisers will be more than happy to assist you in selecting the right plan as well as offer you support in claim reimbursement and insurance plan renewals.
