Emergency Evacuation

The policyholder can not make this decision independently. The Global medical insurance plan you choose usually includes coverage for an emergency evacuation. This procedure has to be requested by the treating doctor and by the insurer's medical consultant. The policyholder must be seriously ill, injured, or be looking at months of rehabilatation. The international medical insurance company will generally cover the costs associated with the transfer of the policyholder to the nearest appropriate medical center or back to the insured person's home country.

Most international medical insurance plans also cover (within reasonable limits) the cost of the transportation for an accompanying person. However, most of the time accommodations will not be provided or covered for the accompanying individual.

In the unfortunate event of the policyholder's death, the vast majority of international medical insurance plans cover the cost of transportation of the insured person's mortal remains to their home country as well as covering statutory arrangements such as embalming and a zinc coffin. Generally, cremation costs will only be covered if it is required for legal purposes.
