ihi Bupa History
IHI Danmark, now ihi Bupa, started with a need, the need was voiced by a Danish sea pilot based in the Mauritius islands who discovered he was no longer covered by the Danish health service. He expressed his concern by sending a postcard to the National Medical Insurance Company and labeled it "Danmark".
This was the beginning of IHI Danmark, initially; insurance plans offered by the company were aimed at Danes living abroad. However, with the increasing demand, IHI decided to sell international medical insurance plans to all nationalities around the world. In 1979 with the clientele base consistently growing, International Health Insurance Danmark was founded.
In 2005, IHI Danmark was purchased by the British United Provident Association, widely known as Bupa. Despite the company changing ownership, it still maintained its focus of providing the highest quality international health insurance products and services to expatriates around the globe. IHI Danmark changed its name in January 2009 to ihi Bupa, in order to show its inclusion in the Bupa Group.
ihi Bupa has provided more new products, over the last 30 years, than any of its competitors; they list products including preventative services, health consulting services and online solutions.
